+ Keep the fresh tattoo covered with the bandage for at least 2 hours. You may wear the bandage overnight but no longer than 24hrs. (NOT applicable to Second Skin, Derm Shield or Saniderm; continue to PROTECTIVE FILM for instructions).+ Do not remove the bandage until you are in a sanitary location where you can clean the tattoo.+ Wash the tattooed area thoroughly with unscented soap and water.+ Do not soak or submerge your new tattoo until it is completely healed.+ Do not use abrasive scrubs or exfoliators.+ When dry, apply a thin layer of unscented non-petroleum based lotion to the tattoo.
(I recommend a kit called ‘Tattoo Goo’ which includes an antimicrobial soap, petroleum-free lotion and petroleum / lanolin-free balm. $14-$20 at most locations; Walgreens, Walmart, Amazon, etc.).+ Vaseline and Aquaphor are NOT recommended.+ Do NOT re-bandage the tattoo.+ If the newly tattooed area must be clothed, refrain from wearing heavy fabrics or tight fitting clothing.+ Once the tattoo begins to peel, after cleaning, continue to apply a thin layer of unscented lotion as needed. It is extremely important that the new tattoo not dry out as this will create scarring that may discolor the tattoo and hinder the healing process. + Do not itch or peal the skin. Slap the skin in order to relieve itching symptoms.+ Avoid direct sun exposure and do not soak the tattoo in water (pools and baths) for at least 2 weeks.
AFTERCARE INFO.
PROTECTIVE FILM (Derm Shield / Second Skin / Saniderm)
+ The first film application should stay in place for 48 hours, depending on level of exudation.
+ It is normal for blood and fluids to collect under the bandage.
+ If small hives begin to form around the edges of the film, remove the adhesive in a sanitary location and cleanse the tattoo thoroughly.
+ You may wear the protective film in the shower but do not allow the bandage to soak for an extended period of time. Avoid scented soaps and abrasive cleansers as you would normally.
Directions for Removal
+ Gently peel the film downward from a corner, rolling the free edge over itself.
(Do NOT pull the film off as quickly as you would a bandaid. This will damage the surrounding skin and hinder the healing process).
